Things to Do
Weekend trips from Dubai: Hatta, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah
What is actually at each destination, how far they are from Dubai, and what official tourism sources confirm about getting there.
The short version
Three different weekend trips, each about an hour or two from Dubai by road: Hatta for a built-up adventure hub in the Hajar Mountains, Ras Al Khaimah for the UAE's highest peak and its zipline, and Fujairah for a scattered run of forts, beaches and a mosque along the east coast. None of the figures below on prices or hours are fixed; each destination's own tourism authority is the place to check before booking.
Hatta: one hub, several activities
Hatta sits in the Hajar Mountains inside Dubai's own boundaries, reached by a roughly 90-minute drive on the E102. According to reporting on Dubai's tourism authority, the main draws cluster around a few areas:
- Hatta Wadi Hub: zorbing, axe-throwing, a climbing wall, a water jump park, ziplines, rope courses and a shooting range.
- Hatta Mountain Bike Trail Centre: trails for different skill levels.
- Hatta Dam: a viewpoint, with kayaking available on the water.
- Hatta Heritage Village, Hatta Hill Park and a lit sign reached by a roughly seven-kilometre hike.
- Horse riding, and sunrise or sunset yoga sessions.
Getting there without a car is possible: Visit Hatta's own site describes the RTA Hatta Express Bus (route H02), running from Dubai Mall to Hatta's main bus station in about 1.5 hours for AED 25 on a Nol card. From there, a separate Hop-On Hop-Off bus (route H204) stops at the main tourist sites within Hatta itself, which an earlier secondary report put at AED 2 per stop.
Ras Al Khaimah: Jebel Jais and the coast
Ras Al Khaimah's tourism authority names Jebel Jais, at 1,934 metres the UAE's highest peak, as the emirate's main draw, calling it the region's "adventure hub." Attractions named on the mountain include a long zipline, a multi-line zipline tour with a sky bridge, a toboggan ride, a viewing-deck park, and what the authority describes as the UAE's highest restaurant.
Beyond Jebel Jais, the same source names Al Wadi Nature Reserve, several UNESCO-tentative heritage sites (Al Jazeera Al Hamra, Dhayah Fort, Shimal and Julfar), and a golf club, without ranking them against each other.
RAKTDA's own sheet gives the drive time from Dubai International Airport as about 45 minutes; it does not state a separate drive time specifically to Jebel Jais, which sits further inland than the coast.
Fujairah: forts, a mosque and the coast
Fujairah's official tourism authority lists its sites with names only, not descriptions, prices or hours:
- Al Aqqah Beach
- Al Bidya Mosque
- Al Bithnah Fort
- Al Hayl Fort and Village
- Dibba Fort
- Fujairah Fort
- Sheikh Zayed Mosque
- Wadi Al Wurrayah
The authority's own page describes the wider region as having mineral springs, villages, historic castles and picturesque beaches, with coral reefs and camping also mentioned, but gives no further detail on any individual site.
Choosing between them
- Want one place with activities already organised? Hatta's Wadi Hub concentrates several paid activities in one spot.
- Want a single big-ticket attraction? Ras Al Khaimah's Jebel Jais zipline and sledder are the most specific, named draws of the three destinations.
- Want heritage sites and beaches with more driving between stops? Fujairah's list spreads across forts, a mosque and the coast, without one central hub.
